The Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield recognizes the importance of seniors in our community and as such has developed an extensive senior plan.  The plan highlights nine recommendations to help meet the current and future demands of seniors in our community.

The Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (ONPEA)

Home Support Services - Community Care

Community Care programs are provided at the following locations:

Chemung:

Lakefield:

Fitness Classes for Seniors - every Monday & Thursday from 9:15 to 10:15am at Lakefield Intermediate School - No Cost

Blood pressure Clinic on the third Wednesday of everything month, first come first served between 1 pm and 3 pm at our office.

All are welcome to drop in to the office Monday to Thursday 9:30 to 3:30 or Friday 9:30 to 12:30 to learn about services and volunteer opportunities.

Seniors Groups

50+Chemung Senior Citizen's Family

Where friends meet friends and have fun together.

Playing cards, different games, potlucks, corn roast, picnic, singing, laughter, eating out at different restaurants, bus trip, Christmas dinner, outings, boat trip, Veterans Day at Bridgenorth in November and much more.

Potlucks are on the first Tuesday of each month at 11:45 am. Second Tuesday is Fun and Games Day at 12:00 noon. Sandwiches and cookies start at 1:00. Dine outs are the third Tuesday of each month at different restaurants. Outings are on the fourth week.

50+Chemung SCF still has room for a few more members that like to have some fun, laughter and sharing as a family does. Only $15.00 per year and $2.00 for coffee at entrance. We meet at Bridgenorth United Church downstairs. No meetings July and August only dine outs, picnic in July, BBQ Start up at the Corn Roast in September first Tuesday at a members home or at the Church.

Ennismore Seniors

Activities are located at the Ennismore Fire Hall and include darts, crafts, folk art, exercise, woodworking, pool, carving and a sewing circle. Lunches are the 2nd Wednesday of each month at St. Martin's Church Hall. Year round program for ages 55+. For more information contact Jean Wood at 705-292-9219.

Golden Years Seniors - Lakefield

The Golden Years Seniors are located in their own hall behind the Community Care Building at 275 Queen Street. They meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 12:30pm. Membership is $10.00 per person. Daily activities schedule - Mondays: craft and card at 10am and bridge at 1pm; Tuesdays: carving at 9:30am and shuffleboard at 1:30pm; Wednesdays: euchre at 1:30pm and bridge at 7pm.; Thursdays: scrabble at 1pm and euchre at 7:30pm; Fridays: music at 9:30am and cribbage at 1:30pm. VON Adult Day Program

Offers a pleasant social experience in a safe and stimulating environment for older adults who live in the community and are in need of support to remain at home. Provides a regular day of respite for family caregivers. Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Located at the Marshland Centre, 65 Hague Blvd. Lakefield. Fee: $19.00 per day (subsidy available). Register through the Peterborough Community Access Centre at 705-743-2212. For more information contact Doreen Anderson-Roy at 705-745-9155.

Lakefield Jolly Seniors

The Lakefield Jolly Seniors meets the second Wednesday of the month in the upstairs hall at the Lakefield Legion, Branch 77.  The annual fee is $5, and there is no user fee.  A potluck lunch is held at 1:00 pm followed by a meeting at 2:00 pm.
