One Council representative, one representative appointed by the Province, and one member from the community at large. The term for the Council member and the member from the community at large is four years to coincide with the Council term.

Joint Peterborough County Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Ontarians with Disabilities Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee consists of two disabled representatives appointed by the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and one disabled representative appointed by Peterborough County. The Committee serves both Peterborough County and the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and includes one political representative from each of the respective Councils. Staff from both the County and Township support the Committee.

Fence Viewers

Where an owner of land desires to construct, repair or maintain a fence to mark the boundary between the owner's land and adjoining land but the owner and the owner of the adjoining land cannot agree on how the costs of constructing, maintaining or repairing the fence should be apportioned, either owner may notify the Minister that the owner wishes fence-viewers to view and arbitrate the dispute.  R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 716, s. 2. Minimum of three members from the community at large.

Property Standards

Property Standards are to ensure that all environmental nuisances in residential neighborhoods are eliminated and that substandard and deteriorated structures become compliant with minimum property maintenance code requirements. Property Standards' staff also works closely with neighborhood groups and concerned citizens by acquainting them with Municipal ordinances and helping them monitor their own neighborhoods to prevent deterioration. Property Standards' inspectors serve as a stabilizing presence in neighborhoods that are stricken with blight and deterioration. Inspectors address items such as high weeds, deteriorated houses and unlicensed or inoperable cars. Minimum of three members from the community at large.

General Information

Although there are currently no openings available, if you are interested in serving on any of the above Boards or Committees, written applications, clearly marked as to contents, should be forwarded to the Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Municipal Office. The Township Application Form must be used when applying.

A Criminal Records Check (including a pardoned sexual offender database search) must be included with the application.  The cost for the criminal records check will be reimbursed to the applicant should they be appointed to a position. Council may require an interview with the applicants prior to making an appointment. - Volunteer Recruitment Policy related to the Criminal Records Check.
