Mary was elected Deputy Reeve of the Village of Lakefield in 1998, and consequently served as a Councillor for the County of Peterborough. With the amalgamation of the Village of Lakefield and the Township of Smith-Ennismore, Mary was elected into the position of Lakefield Ward Councillor for the newly formed Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield in 2000. Mary served two terms in this position before the November 2006 Municipal Elections saw her win the position of Deputy Reeve. Mary believes that it is a privilege to be involved in politics and enjoys meeting people and her many opportunities to learn about the local community.
