Mary Smith was elected to the position of Reeve of the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield for the term of 2010-2014. Her municipal career began in 1998, when she was acclaimed as Deputy Reeve of the Village of Lakefield and automatically became a Councillor for the County of Peterborough. Elected Lakefield Ward Councillor for the new Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield in 2000, Mary served two terms in that position. In 2006, she was elected Deputy Reeve for the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and once again served on Council for the County of Peterborough.

Since 2001, she continues to serve as the Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield member on the Peterborough Lakefield Police Services Board. She is also a member of the Ennismore Community Centre Renovation Project Committee, the Peterborough County-City Board of Health, Peterborough County Land Division Committee and the Peterborough County Awards and Bursaries Committee. A strong advocate on environmental issues and knowing the importance of clean water to our quality of life, Mary is pleased to be the Chairperson of the Municipal Sub-Committee and a member of the Trent Conservation Coalition - Drinking Water Source Protection Committee.

Mary believes it is a privilege to be involved in politics! She enjoys meeting people and the many opportunities to learn about the local community.

Mary has deep roots in the Kawarthas, as she grew up on a dairy farm in the former Emily Township and has lived in Lakefield with her husband Al for 34 years.  They proudly raised their 3 children here, who are now 32, 29 and 26.

Mary enjoys swimming, cycling, gardening, canoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping and spending time with family.

An experienced public and private sector community advocate, Andy believes in keeping families strong and communities vibrant through sound, sensible economic development geared toward long-term growth and sustainable practices. Andy believes in transparent communication, consultation and accountability to residents.

A former Federal Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament, Andy is a Member of the Privy Council, a consultant and an Adjunct Professor at Trent University where he teachers part-time. Andy has served as a member of several community Boards of Directors and continues to be actively involved in his community. He and his wife Christine, who make their home in Lakefield, run a company specializing in strategic planning and development. 


Donna Ballantyne - Ennismore Ward Councillor

As a life long resident of Ennismore, Donna is confident that she understands the past, present and future needs of the Township. Donna has lived on the family farm on Robinson Road for 38 years with her husband Rollie. She has spent her life in community service. Donna worked for Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board for over 30 years, dealing primarily with exceptional students. She presently works on contract for Fleming College where she supervises and evaluates Educational Assistant canditates when they are on placement in classrooms across the Province.  In her spare time she enjoys golfing, reading and loves to travel. 

Donna welcomes questions and concerns from the rate payers and would be happy to discuss issues as they arise. Donna prides herself in being accessible to the public and has always strived to help people find answers and/or solutions to their problems and queries. 

This is Donna's third term as the Ennismore Ward Councillor. Donna is appointed to several Township Committee's, including the Library Board, the Trail Development Committee and the Ennismore Community Centre Renovation Prioject Committee.

 


 

Sherry Senis - Smith Ward Councillor

Sherry and her husband Wayne are residents of the Buckhorn Sands area of Smith Ward, and she is the proud mother of two daughters. She is a Director of the Buckhorn Sands Ratepayers Association and past Director of the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival.

With a long history of community involvement, and a background in business, Sherry continues to bring her experience and strong voice to the Council meetings. She feels honored and privileged to represent Smith Ward and the Township for a second term.

In order to provide better communication between constituents and Council, and to provide a voice for residents, Sherry has been instrumental to introducing a township newsletter, the Council Communicator.

She foresees a Council that will direct and initiate - not just react to issues.

Sherry is appointed to several Township committees including chairing the Smith Ennismore Police Services Board, and the Trails Committee, and the vice chair of the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. 

 


Anita Locke, Lakefield Ward Councillor

Anita Locke was born and raised in Lakefield, and has spent most of her years living in the area. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Lakefield, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trent University (1995). She has three children: a son and two daughters, and twin grandsons who she loves spending time with.   

Her past employment experience includes Administrative Assistant at Hospice Peterborough (Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Program) and Office Manager (Kawartha Food Share). She currently works as a freelance journalist for the Lakefield Herald newspaper, which she has been affiliated with from time to time over the past 18 years. She is also the organist and choir director at Young's Point United Church.

This is Anita's second term on Council, and she sits on a number of Township Committees including the Ontarians with Disabilities Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Heritage Committee.

Besides sitting on the Council committees, she also sits on a number of community committees including the Lakefield Farmers' Market steering committee and the Lakefield Historical Society's Special Events and Fundraising committee.
