When should I purchase my licence?
Your marriage licence is valid for three months from the date of issue. It is suggested you come in one to two months before the ceremony, then if any additional information is required there will be time to deal with it.
Do both parties have to attend to obtain a marriage licence?
At least one of the parties to the marriage has to attend to obtain the licence. However, the application form MUST be signed by both parties. Both parties must complete and sign the application form. One person can then obtain the licence IF they bring in the appropriate identification, as indicated below, of the absent party. If you do not understand or read English, you must provide your own interpreter. The Interpreter must provide two pieces of identification.

Are there any blood tests required?
No blood tests are required in Ontario.
What if I am divorced?
Anyone who is divorced must show a certified copy of the Certificate of Divorce or Decree Absolute. This must be certified by the Canadian Court granting the divorce and not by the persons attorney. If your divorce was granted outside of Canada, you need to obtain a consent letter from the Registrar Generals Office in Thunder Bay before the Clerk's Office can issue a licence.
