The Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield realizes the importance of high speed internet. With today's advancement in technology high-speed internet access is a tool that has defined the way people live and communicate. Below are some links that can provide you with information on various high speed internet options within the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and County of Peterborough.
DSL - Digital Subscriber Line
As part of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs, the Rural Connections program was a joint venture between The Province of Ontario, Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and Bell Aliant. The purpose of this venture was to bring High Speed Data access to residents of the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, that were not being served.
The Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield submitted a successful application for funding from the Government of Ontario's Rural Connections Phase 2 grant program. The Township received a $1 million grant to expand broadband services. The RFP was awarded to Bell Aliant Regional Communications Limited to implement a wireline solution to expand broadband services. Bell Aliant invested just over $2 million to create a $3 million broadband investment in the County of Peterborough.

Eastern Ontario Regional Network - EORN
EORN is Ontario's largest rural broadband network. EORN will enable high-speed Internet access across Eastern Ontario that will improve the quality of life of residents and support innovation and economic growth.
The $170 million project is funded by federal, provincial, municipal dollars as well as private sector contributions.
The goal is to improve access to the internet with higher speeds and bandwidth to at least 95% of homes and businesses in Eastern Ontario, a majority of which will see speeds up to 10 Mbps. The project will explore various types of high speed internet options including wireline, wireless and satellite. One of the goals of the project is to help ensure rural customers pay rates similar to urban customers.
